Evaluate the relevance of Neale's genre theory to long term television drama

Neale's narrative theory relates to Homeland series because in terms of the Mise - en - scene, character and themes. Neale's theory says that genre is a process by which generic codes and conventions are shared by producers and audiences through repetition in mead products.

The Mise - en- scene in Homeland supports the theory of 'repetition', as they will repeat the set and props and costumes as other crime drama series that are around now as well. This is because in the series the set are usually quite dim and always in a city or something because that is where most drama and crimes will happen not in a countryside. Also the probs and will be the same as because it will be revealing around crime the main props would be guns and knives, not so much bombs as that would be more war series. The costumes in Homelands are military based as it is meant to be a man that was from the military but most crimes series won't really be related to military.

Homelands narrative also follows crime drama conventions in other crime series as the narrative of the shows are that it begins of with the god guy bad guy, meaning the police man and the terrorist, but in homelands it is in the other sub genres because they have a political, military person and a physiologic and not just crime involved. Many other crime dramas also use political and sub genres into the crime aspects, because this means it is relevant to the time of when the series is released.

Aspects and the themes are the main narrative that make the show a hybrid for USA viewers. The tv series Homeland themes are all about a USA country and about how he was fighting for the Usa this is then making a connection between the series and that kind of audience members, this is because they will be able to relate to it.
